The Most Beautiful Sights in New Zealand
Franz Josef Glacier
Over ten kilometers long
This awe-inspiring natural spectacle is located in Westland National Park on the South Island.
According to Homethodology, the Franz Josef Glacier is easy to reach from the place of the same name.
There are several fantastic hiking trails that will take you to insane views of the glacier.
You can do some of them without a lot of hiking equipment.
Northwestern point of New Zealand
Far from civilization is this beautiful New Zealand attraction .
At Cape Reinga you have fantastic panoramic views of the ocean and coast. Here you can take really great landscape photos.
The Cape Reinga lighthouse , which is just a few steps from the nearest parking lot, is also a great photo motif .
Hobbiton / Hobbiton
The Shire from Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit is real and is located on the North Island of New Zealand.
And yes, everything here actually looks like it does in the movies!
Whether you’re a Hobbit fan or not, you should definitely check out the Hobbiton film set . You won’t be able to visit such a cool film set anywhere else in the world.
Rental car or camper
We recommend that you rent a car or travel by camper . This is the most flexible and easiest way to get from city to city and national parks. There are also many campsites in New Zealand.
But you can also travel by bus in New Zealand. There is a well-developed bus network throughout the country. The bus is the cheapest means of transport in New Zealand.
The most common provider is InterCity . The bus provider has many attractive ticket options on offer.
The hop-on hop-off ticket option is particularly popular with backpackers, allowing you to hop on and off flexibly on fixed routes.
By the way: There is only a very sparse railway network in New Zealand. We find the bus much more practical.
plane and ship
To get from the North Island to the South Island or vice versa, you have two options: plane or ship.
There are several domestic flights, so you can fly quickly from Auckland to Christchurch , for example .
There is also a ferry service between Wellington and Picton – the crossing takes about 3.5 hours and should definitely be booked in advance.

In general we can say that the climate in New Zealand is quite mild all year round. Our favorite travel time is February to May. There are already fewer tourists there, but it is still warm and little rain.
From December to February is summer time and therefore also high season. It’s warmest there, but also the busiest.
Especially on the South Island it can get very cold and snow in winter (June to October). This in turn is the perfect travel time for winter sports enthusiasts.

There are three official languages English, Te Reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language (cool that it’s an official language, right?).
