According to fun-wiki, Tennessee is a state in the southeastern United States, of which Nashville is the capital. The nickname “Volunteer State” arose in the first half of the nineteenth century because the state provided many volunteers for the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War.
The area now called Tennessee was settled around 10,000 BC. Inhabited by the Paleo Indians. The first Europeans were the Spanish conquistadors who explored the Mississippi River area in the 16th century. Folk hero Davy Crockett grew up in the eastern part of the state and was first a hunter, storyteller and chief of a militia. From 1833 to 1835 he represented Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), the state sided with the Confederate States. The state was divided on this and Tennessee was the last state to switch to the Confederacy.
