The land of the unexpected
The landscape of Papua New Guinea is very varied from the coast to the mountains.
Location of Papua New Guinea
According to Countryaah, Papua New Guinea is an island nation in the southern Pacific north of Australia and east of Indonesia. After Indonesia and Madagascar, it is the third largest island nation in the world. It is also noteworthy that over 600 languages are spoken in the country which is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations !
Information of Papua New Guinea
The different languages are part of almost as many cultures. These cultures were very alien to eighteenth-century Europeans advancing into the country.
Traditionally there was headhunting in many places in Papua New Guinea, which gave the island the reputation of being a refuge for cannibals. Christian missionaries saw in the rumors enough to bring these “savages” the “right faith”. For the last remaining groups in their cultural identity, music plays a strong role in demarcating them from others. In music and dance the creation myth becomes one’s own community, which strengthens group cohesion. External influences, intermingling with other languages and international trade products lead to a steady but ever faster decay of this tradition.
Vacation in Papua New Guinea
Many travelers and holidaymakers who visit the island from the surrounding Asian countries often stay there for longer periods of time. The island has a lot to offer in terms of landscape. The widely ramified river network is the Mecca of many boaters, because for a long time the waterway was considered the only access to the villages, which were scattered in the dense jungle.
Of course, in times of ethnomarketing, the country also advertises with its cultures. And so today there are many opportunities to see traditional dances and chants. In addition, Papua New Guinea has 600 offshore islands !
Discover Papua New Guinea
The country has a total of 19 provinces. Some of the most beautiful regions are Milne Bay on the east coast, the island provinces of Bougainville and New Ireland the highland province of the Western Highlands and of course the city of Madang, which was once known as the pearl of the South Seas.
Whatever you choose, your vacation in Papua New Guinea is sure to be varied !
