Land of the mushroom islands

Palau offers many natural spectacles, such as a lake that is only populated by jellyfish.

Location

According to Countryaah, Palau is a widely dispersed collection of islands in the Micronesia region. Of the 356 islands that make up the state territory of Palau, only 11 are inhabited, as most of them consist only of coral limestone. Most of the more than 20,000 residents of this island state live on the 396 km² main island of Babelthuap. Due to the tropical location of the region, the weather is very moderate; the average annual temperature is 27 degrees Celsius.

Vacation on Palau

Because of its offshore coral banks and reefs, Palau is very popular with divers. This is true not only for the Haischulen and Rifftunnels, but because dive sites such as the Jellyfish Lake (“Jellyfish Lake”) or the groups of giant rays near the “German tunnel”. Supposedly up to 30 million medusas populate the jellyfish lake on the island of Eil Malk at peak times. But in addition to these fascinating natural spectacles, Palau also has a lot to offer for those interested in culture.

Culture of Palau

The residents of Palau have a complex reference system for determining their origin: it is not only stated which family and which village someone comes from, but also which lineage and which island. A long tradition of the chiefdom is based on this kinship system, whose material objects and figural representations as well as traditional paintings can be found in many places in Palau.
