Microsoft has added a clever functionality in Skydrive on Windows 8.1, which makes it possible to reduce the amount of hard disk space that is needed in your computer.
By using Skydrive folder as the primary place for documents and images, Smart Files function to ensure that only small info files are located physically on the hard drive-a so-called “placeholder” with some key information as well as a thumbnail.
When the user clicks on the file to open it, it will be instantly downloaded from Skydrive.
Microsoft says that they have at tests on Windows 8.1 Preview may take note that people who use Skydrive with Smart Files, reducing their consumption of disk space by 80 percent.
A small detail is that the files continue to behave like normal files, and also comes with in the results when their searches on your computer, Microsoft informs.
If you need the files locally on your computer, you can still synchronize selected folders to your hard disk.
Windows 8.1 is available for download in Denmark on 18. October 2013 22.
