Hong Kong is located on the South China Sea, at the mouth of the Pearl River and is a popular destination for a trip – both for a vacation and for business.

Hong Kong was a crown colony of Great Britain until 1997. Since then it has been a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China. Translated into German, Hong Kong means “Fragrant Harbor”. The most beautiful view of the famous skyline of Hong Kong Island is from Victoria Peak. The peak is the highest point in Hong Kong. A visit is a must when you are on vacation in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong can be divided into three areas: the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and the Hong Kong Island. The easiest and cheapest way to move between the ports of these three areas is with Star Ferry ferries. Star Ferry also offers a so-called harbor tour, with which you can discover Hong Kong from the water.

the Central District – the “capital” of Hong Kong

The Central District on Hong Kong Island is the administrative center and is therefore also seen as the “capital” of Hong Kong. The easiest way to visit this is by taking a double-decker tram, which takes you past all the famous and well-known sights such as Hollywood Road, Cat Street, the Man Mo Temple (the most important Taoist temple on Hong Kong Island) and the Escalator (an 800-meter-long escalator), and in the middle of the Central District is Hong Kong Park. It offers a quiet natural landscape in the middle of the hectic business environment. In the mornings in Hong Kong Park you can find many followers of Tai Chi practicing there.

Shopping in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is known as one of the largest shoppers’ paradises in the world. Well-known shopping miles on Hong Kong Island are Connaught Road, Des Voeux Road and Queen’s Road. In addition, the markets are a special attraction for those who spend their vacation in Asia. The most famous market is the Night Market on Temple Street. As you can tell from its name, the Night Market on Temple Street is mostly open in the evenings. It’s pretty quiet here during the day as only a few stalls are open. Other well-known markets are the Flower Market, the ” Ladies Markets ” and theJade Market.
