The British Will Test Mobile Messages to the Alarm in Case of Emergency

SMS and Cell Broadcast messages put into service a new attempt by the British Government.

The British Government must in the process of testing a new alarm system that makes use of the mobile alerts to alert the population in case of emergency.

The tests must be carried out in three regions of the country (Yorkshire, Suffolk and Glasgow) and the aim is to test different technologies as well as examine how people react.

It is expected that 50,000 people will receive the messages that are sent out as a mix of sms messages and Cell Broadcast messages that unlike sms does not require some personal information such as phone number, but only transmitted to all phones in a given area (cell) in the network.
